Division Statement
In this division we focus on teaching the fundamental skills of softball. Girls will have the option of hitting off a tee or hitting with coach pitch. The focus of this division is learning the basic rules of the game, positions of the field, and team camaraderie. Players will be rotated to each position in the field throughout the season so they have an understanding of each position. By the end of the season, all players should be able to throw a ball, catch a ball, hit off a tee and with underhand coach pitch, understand the bases, and understand the concept of an out.

Rules
The goal of Little League is supposed to be a fun filled experience, where each child is given a chance to succeed and learn..
Game time shall be 6pm
No inning shall start an hour after the start of the game
All games are played regardless of how many players arrive
All games will be rescheduled by the league
The Little League Code of Conduct will be adhered to and enforced.
Smithtown teams
This division will use a Spring Training/Practice schedule in April. They will hold two practices a week where the coaches will be able to go over the basics of throwing, catching, fielding, hitting and running the bases in a fun environment for the kids. They should start with hitting off Tees and advance to coach pitch as the season goes on. Make these practices fun, play games, keep the girls moving!
Pitching:
Start season with using the tee and gradually get to coach pitch as the kids develop
Coaches must pitch from the proper distance of 30 feet, measured from the back tip of home plate to the front of the pitching rubber.
Catching:
Batting:
Facemasks and chin straps are MANDATORY.
Bats MUST be Little League approved, this means they have the USA logo on them.
All players are included in the lineup. Late arriving players should be added to the bottom of the batting order.
Players forced to leave early will have their spot in the lineup skipped without penalty.
Fielding:
Each team will field a by rule infield (1st baseman, 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman, Shortstop and Pitcher (standing to the side of the coach, if the coach is pitching). Having cones helps with showing proper positioning
Coach of the team on the field will work with the fielders to learn which base to throw too and what to do if the ball is not hit to them
All players not on the infield will go to the outfield with another coach and work on fielding drills (proper fielding of ground balls and throwing)
Each inning the players from the infield and outfield will rotate
Scoring:
Teams will bat through the line up,
If a team is short players, when that team is batting they will bat the amount of players based on the other team. If they bat 10 players the team short will bat 10 players.
All batters will hit a single (if there is an exceptional hit, allow the player to go multiple bases) and advance a single base at a time.
The last batter in the order each inning will hit a homerun, being allowed to run all the baes no matter where it is hit.
Bases:
Large Team Rule
It gets boring sitting in the field waiting for 16 girls to hit. If possible, set up a tee in the outfield and take some of the girls to the OF and have them practice hitting off a tee and then rotate them into hitting on the field. If you're in the field playing against a large team, rotate the kids from infield to being in the OF and playing a game. Need to keep them moving, to keep them interested!
